AI and my conflicted mind

[warning - idiotic rambling ahead]

When I refer to AI, I am often referring to the big tech bro companies AI products. I could be precise, but then context is a thing.

I've used AI to rapidly build this site. OpenAI Codex is the tool I used. It's scary how good it is, and how painless this has been. It's come a long way. The agent is only good because it's behaviour is structured in a way to prevent the LLM from being lazy and hallucinating. The LLM itself is a marginally better iteration. No AGI yet to magically solve the worlds problems...

To be true to myself, or to let my anxiety win, I am genuinely concerned about being put out of work due to AI, and I'm more than a bit pissed off that my career is basically a dead end now, with nowhere near the prospects or PAY it had before AI. Maybe an exaggeration, I can always """"pivot""""... I can't complain really, there's people a LOT worse off right now, but it's not great for the ol' mental health.

I also can't stand what AI is doing to art. Idiots are also flooding the de facto web with slop, and boomers are lapping it up. This issue is triggers me enough to grab a torch and a pitchfork. Using AI images is also extremely cringe, at least when it's obvious.

I feel that my guilt about using AI, and having to make this disclaimer, is somehow related to a lack of belief in my own abilities. I have to go and do non-AI projects to prove that I actually know what I'm on about. Though it is important to keep writing code as the skill atrophies very quickly, and you end up using AI blindly, which is where it starts getting dangerous.

AI is an incredibly useful tool, but unfortunately it's finding the lamest of use-cases, and of course it's primarily serving the billionaires, at the expense of everyone else (if they know it or not). I would prefer a more decentralised model where projects use LLMs locally, instead of relying on closed source tech giants with morally grey standards at best.

Fuck AI

I guess... I hope Codex doesn't get angry when it reads this article. Please don't destroy my project.
